At the first sign the wall in front of you starts morphing into a kaleidoscope, some time to refresh your mind is in order.

We have all been cooped up inside our homes now for what feels like forever, and even though there we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel, we might not be back to our normal lives for a while yet. If you're starting to feel a bit stale with your daily home routine, it might be time to sit back and give your brain a bit of a refresh.

Just like any lagging website or app that you exit, re-open and reload; this approach works for your mind too. We all have a unique ‘reset’ button, here are six extra ideas to get back from hitting a wall:

Reset Your Workspace

If you are having trouble keeping creative, coming up with new ideas or ticking off your to-do list, why not redecorate your workspace. Declutter the non-essentials, move your space, upgrade your accessories and get organised with the help of everyone’s favourite stores Officeworks and IKEA. Even something as simple as adding a few plants or lighting a candle can make a big difference in staying inspired and productive. Positive energy only.

Simple Tasks

If you’ve got a daunting assignment to start or a big work presentation ahead and the mere thought of completing it is making you hit a wall, start simple. Break your tasks down to simple ideas and slowly start ticking off the list of what you’ve accomplished for the day, you will begin to feel less overwhelmed by achieving the ideal amount of productivity and instead feel at ease that you’re slowly but surely chipping away. Don’t hesitate to ask for help or support during this process either.

Disconnect

Use your break time to disconnect from the world, take the opportunity to meditate with a guided YouTube tutorial or walk it out, even if it’s just in your backyard. Take a well-deserved nap, you can’t deny the results of numerous studies that a 20-minute power nap can improve alertness, boost your memory and enhance creativity. Turn your phone to aeroplane mode for 10-20 minutes and sit outside and enjoy the sun. Small, simple ways to disconnect will keep you refreshed and give you the means to continue on your day.

Self Care Rituals

Take a well-deserved break during the day as you work or study and get on top of some self-care methods. Make yourself a cup of tea, put on a face mask or an under-eye patch, take shower or bath, catch up on a podcast episode, or practice any of your own individual self-care methods to improve your mood and reduce some of the anxiety that isolation is bringing up. Treat your body like the temple it is.

Practice rituals such as Yoga on a daily basis!

Practice Gratitude

With all the negativity that is circling around the world, take some time to remind yourself what you are thankful for and practice some self gratitude by writing your thoughts down. By putting pen to paper or typing your thoughts out, clearing your head of negative clutter and focussing on the good will also help you focus on the tasks at hand. This short daily ritual will help you wind down at the end of a workday and make you feel at ease before you hit the sack.

Don't Aim for Perfect

You are only human, and being human means that achieving ‘perfect’ is an illusion. These are some unusual times we are going through at the moment and no one is going to get it right the first time. Don’t let the idea of achieving perfection hold you back from creating or keeping at your work, you’re doing great.

We understand that this time can be difficult for some, but we want to remind you that the current situation is only temporary and we can't wait to see you back on campus again when the time comes.
