JMC’s first ever cohort of Acting students are jumping straight into the performing arts industry, working behind the scenes on an upcoming production of 13 the Musical!

After the latest covid lockdowns wiped out all theatre projects in Melbourne, JMC Head of Acting, Ben Samuel & Soundworks Melbourne joined forces to create a performance opportunity for emerging artists to reinvigorate their passion for musical theatre. Partnering with JMC Academy to bring this production to life, young Melbourne performers received access to JMC’s brand-new facilities for their intensive rehearsal and production period. And now, JMC Acting students have come on board the production, working as stage management, props masters and stage crew, front of house managers, wardrobe assistants and production assistants. Additionally, the vision screen content for the set has been designed by Nicola Golias, a current Design student at JMC.

13 the Musical Producer & JMC's Head of Acting Ben Samuel spoke on the production saying “JMC Academy is a proud supporter and sponsor of this project. We believe in giving our students real-life learning experiences and helping them build industry connections during their studies. This project is a great example of how JMC can help to open doors into the industry for creatives who are passionate about their craft.”

As part of JMC Academy’s support of this upcoming production, we are happy to announce that all JMC Students can book half price tickets for 1pm performances on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March. Simply book using the code #13JMCACADEMY! Book here: 13themusical.com.au

13 the Musical

With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County), 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents' divorce. Surrounded by an array of simple-minded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!? Forget High School Musical, this show has driving music and exhilarating dance numbers which will get you out of your seats.
