The JMC Graduating Company of 2019 Presents...

Bones at the Gate

It’s the aftermath of a civil war and Antigone’s brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices have killed each other. Eteocles is the hero and is to be given a state funeral. Polyneices on the other hand is the traitor. Antigone’s cousin Creon takes on the role of leader and his first act is to declare Polyneices’ body a threat.
It is to be left on the ground beyond the gate. Antigone and Creon are in an impossible situation. She knows that the moment she touches the body she becomes a political subversive.

Bones at the Gate is Jen Silverman's adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone, written in the climate of fear and suspicion that engulfed the West post-9/11.

For both Antigone and Creon, the question at stake is how far are we prepared to go to feel safe in our homes?

What freedoms are we prepared to forgo for stability?

Antigone by Jen Silverman // Directed by Anthony Skuse
