Join us for an exclusive workshop that's tailor-made to boost your confidence, enhance your technique and create memorable characters for your upcoming Music Theatre audition. Experience JMC Academy's industry leading course, and work with working professionals in the Australian Music Theatre Industry, including Director Clary Riven (& Juliet), and Performers Aadhya (& Juliet) and Yash (& Juliet) - this workshop will be your full toolkit for delivering an outstanding audition. 

This is a free event. This is ideal for those looking to study Music Theatre next year:

  • year 12 students finishing school this year
  • those who have finished high school

Note: This is ideal if you're looking to study Acting or Music Theatre at JMC Academy Melbourne but is not required.

New Music Theatre Course

JMC Academy is proud to introduce our new Music Theatre course! Music Theatre at JMC will prepare you to pursue a professional and sustainable career in performance. During your course at JMC, you will experience rigorous actor training, coupled with intensive voice & musicianship development, and dance, preparing you to be a confident and industry ready performer.

Start your journey with our group auditions on the 9th of December, and deliver an outstanding performance using the tools, valuable feedback, and industry knowledge you gained at this Music Theatre audition workshop with the cast and crew of &Juliet

This is the perfect chance to explore Acting and Music Theatre at JMC, meet our lecturers and mingle with current students.

On The Day

Get the answers to all of your burning questions about the industry and the life of someone working professionally in Music Theatre. 

Workshop a 32-bar cut of your audition song* with Clary and Yashith. Receive constructive feedback and tips for developing bold and vibrant characters which leave a lasting impression on an audition panel. 

* An accompanist will be provided. Please make sure to bring sheet music in the correct key, in a folder. Please choose one 32-bar cut (or a 60-second section of a song)

Learn music theatre choreography in a simulated Dance Call. Aadhya will teach you a short section of a routine and elaborate on how you can master it quickly and present with confidence. Learn the tips and tricks which will help you stand out in an audition room. 

Get to know your group, our guests and then explore the industry leading JMC Academy Melbourne Campus (and kickstart your studies in the creative industries!). 

Meet Your Instructors

 

Clary Riven Headshot Clary Riven, Resident Director, & Juliet 
Clary Riven (she/her) is a director hailing from Caracas, Venezuela. Clary is a graduate of Monash University Bachelor Of Performing Arts degree, where she trained to become a theatre maker. Her recent directorial credits include ‘Rebel: A New Musical’ (2019), Autonomous Inventions’s ‘Protein’ (2021), ‘Drew Downing’s Ultimate 90’s Playlist’ (2019), ‘God Only Knows: Songs of Brian Wilson’ (2018 – 2019), ‘Tinder Tales: A New Musical’ (2018), ‘Beautiful Things: A new musical Workshop’ (2018), and has performed the role of assistant director on productions such as Stageart’s ‘Memphis’ (2017), ‘Bare’ (2018) under Dean Drieberg, and Watch This’ ‘Into The Woods’ (2022). Clary is the current Artistic Director of Second Level Productions.

 

Aadhya Wijegoonawardena, Viola/Swing, & Juliet

Yashith Fernando, Francois, & Juliet

 

Yashith is a Melbourne based actor who has recently completed a BFA in Music Theatre at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). Whilst completing his studies at VCA Yashith was cast as Francois in ‘& Juliet’ (Michael Cassel Group), currently touring across Australia. Last year saw Yash playing Kaji in the TV Series ‘Savage River’ with the ABC (dir. Jocelyn Moorhouse). Prior to his time at VCA, he also completed a double degree in Secondary Education and Music (Popular Voice) at Monash University. Yash is proudly represented by the team at Mark Gogoll Artists.
