JMC’s work experience programs are designed to engage young artists in the creative industries.

There are 6 work experience programs to choose from – depending on your areas of interest and passion including Acting, Audio Engineering & Sound Production, Design (Visual Communication), Film & TV Production, Game Design and Music.

Event Details

Location: JMC Academy – 561 Harris Street, Ultimo NSW 2007
Dates: Monday 27th May – Thursday 30th May 2024
Time: 9am – 4pm

Available positions: There are limited spaces available in each program

Acting

Learn to move with confidence between a variety of performance media. Creative play, text, voice, Shakespeare, movement, devising & filmmaking. 

The Acting systems taught at JMC involve unique and dynamic processes of learning that will equip you with robust and logical pathways to producing theatrical and cinematic performance.

Learn to build your practice to ensure you are able to meet the specific needs and nuances of the changing and diversifying performing arts industry.

Application requirements:
  • Outline of your acting/performance background
  • Video submission (upload) of you performing*

*if you don’t have a video of a live performance, perform a monologue or similar to a camera (phones are fine), and submit that!

Audio Engineering & Sound Production

Embark on a dynamic work experience week in Audio Engineering and Sound Production at JMC.

Dive into hands-on learning, covering studio and live sound, post-production, and advanced techniques. From live band mixing to recording sessions, explore the audio production process, gaining practical insights into signal processing, editing, and more. 

This opportunity is designed to align with the diverse demands of the audio industry, offering a comprehensive and immersive experience.

Design (Visual Communication)

Interactive media is evolving faster than ever, with the world calling out for apps, user-based interactions, and experiences faster than they can be designed.

If you’re passionate about how art and design can be used in problem-solving, this course is for you.

Design (Visual Communication) at JMC provides you with the tools and skills you need to create user experiences with impact.

Learn the processes behind compelling visual storytelling and problem-solving to create these experiences in physical, digital and virtual spaces.

Game Design

Embark on an exciting journey into the future of entertainment with JMC's induction, offering an introduction to game design. Dive into theory and hands-on exercises across the game development pipeline.

This immersive experience culminates in a presentation of your work, providing a brief yet comprehensive glimpse into the world of game design.

As gamification shapes the future, become a part of the in-demand players in the entertainment industry – the game designers.

Application requirements:

Please attach or provide a link to your portfolio (or similar)*. If you are interested in programming, please provide any code/scripts you have written.

*We would love to see examples of your work if you have them, but we understand that not everyone may have a portfolio. While you are welcome to include one, it is not mandatory for consideration.

Film and Television

Film & Television (FTV) production blends various art forms like writing, photography, music, and design. Fueled by imagination, this industry is experiencing high demand due to global digital technology.

JMC's FTV course provides hands-on training, offering knowledge and creative, technical, and managerial skills for producing content across film, TV (including Reality TV), live broadcasts, documentaries, web series, commercials, and music videos.

Gain practical experience as you navigate each step of the filmmaking process, leading to a final screening on Day 4!

Music Performance

Standing centre stage, crowd roaring, bass pumping, the lights come up… Succeeding as a musician doesn’t have to be a fantasy – make it your reality.

We are offering an extensive work experience week for:

3 x vocalists
2 x guitarists
1 x bass player
1 x drummer

Embark on a musical journey where you will delve into live performances, band ensembles, recording sessions, and the creative process of songwriting. Explore stage craft essentials and the magic of overdubs in this dynamic hands-on course.

Application requirements: 
  • Outline of your music performance background
  • Video submission (upload) of you performing in your chosen area (vocalist, guitar, bass or drums)*

 *you can submit for more than one role if you fit into more than 1 category
