The Laneway Festival lords have spoken and we’re STOKED to welcome Eora band Maybe in May to the 2025 Sydney lineup!
Representing JMC is Marissa (Lead Vocals), Grace (Bass), Sarah (Drums), Gab (Lead Guitar) and Gabby (Rhythm Guitar). Maybe in May aren’t just a band: they’re a mood, an ethos, and an experience. These five musos have just made history as the first Sydney act to represent JMC at Laneway Festival! With Gab, Grace and Marissa just wrapping up their studies in music and audio engineering at our JMC Sydney campus, this opportunity couldn’t come at a more perfect moment as they take their first steps into the music world.
Joining an insane lineup of artists including charli xcx, Beabadoobee, Clairo, Djo and Skeggs to name but a few, Maybe in May will be opening the stage at the Sydney leg of the Laneway Festival on February 9th in Centennial Park. It definitely isn’t their first gig in the big smoke, having recently played in venues including Bootleggers and Red Rattler (Inner West reppin’!), but it will definitely be their BIGGEST stage to date.
So, what does a Maybe In May set look like, sound like and feel like?
Maybe in May performs angsty indie alt-pop with rich tones, dreamy melodies and themes of youthful reflection. It’s pretty clear to see that the band has the time of their life on stage. They invite audiences to be present with them -dancing, singing along and feeling the connection and community they are building. The lyrical content of their songs fill audiences with a vibey vulnerability, creating a relatable and safe space for everyone in the room (or park, or stadium…). The band is individually influenced by various artists including, Paramore, The Last Dinner Party, Holy Holy and The Buoys.
As always, it was no mean feat to select a JMC x Laneway Festival act for 2025 with all of the amazing, diverse talent that applied to take the stage. We’re so pleased that team Laneway has selected Maybe in May for this opportunity and can’t wait to see what’s next for them in 2025 and beyond!
