As we edge towards the end of the summer, we’re filled with warmth (figuratively and literally!) for all that has transpired this past season.

Summer \m/ ROCKED \m/ and we can’t wait to see how this time has set us up for success in the coming months. Today we want to reflect on all of the wins JMC has celebrated since December 1 and congratulate all the JMC staff and students that have maximised on all of the opportunities that have come to pass. Here are some of the biggest wins from JMC’s 23-24 summer!

We filmed, coordinated, liaised and played at Laneway Festival!

Easily one of our biggest collaborations in recent times, our partnership with St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival for 2024 saw our students put theory into practice for another year of music festival success. Across all campuses and study disciplines, our students brought their high standards of creative skill and professionalism to the Laneway Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne locations. Tasks included assisting as audio stage hands, being artist liaisons, designing on-stage motion graphics, operating cameras and so much more!

Of course, a very special mention to the Worm Girlz, who performed as a part of the Laneway lineup this year on behalf of JMC. It was an amazing two weeks of watching our students establish themselves as true creative professionals.

We welcomed new creatives into our community at O-Week!

Orientation Week at JMC is always an exciting occasion, and this time around was no exception! In fact, our most recent o-week goes down as JMC’s biggest in recent memory. The sheer turn out, enthusiasm, activities and overall glee we experienced across all of our campuses was more than we could ever hope for.

To our newest cohort of JMC students- WELCOME <3 We’re so glad you’re here and so happy you have chosen to trust us with the important job of guiding you towards a sustainable and rewarding creative future! Let the fun begin!

We mastered Music Theatre in Melbourne!

At the end of 2023, JMC announced that we would be offering a new major in music theatre! Starting this month, our jam-packed Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) Major in Music Theatre is quite the mouthful (we get our students to say in 10x fast as a vocal warmup… jk). The course provides an immersive way of learning the principles of acting for music theatre, film, theatre, television and new media, giving students the diverse range of skills and the confidence to launch a sustainable career in Acting and Music Theatre!

To mark the occasion, we were extremely lucky to welcome theatre director Clary Riven (& Juliet), and performers Aadhya Wijegoonawardena (& Juliet) and Yashith Fernando (& Juliet) to our Melbourne campus for a Mock Audition Workshop, where attendees were able to learn vital audition skills from some of the best in the industry!

We celebrated everything we are with our biggest and best ever Open Day!

It’s no secret to anyone familiar with JMC that our Open Days are above and beyond any typical ‘show and tell’ experience. These days give us the chance to showcase and celebrate the amazing, skillful, groundbreaking creative work our students and staff produce each day with a curious audience (that may one day join our community!).

In January, our traditional start of year open campus event was a roaring hit around the country, with enthusiastic crowds descending on our Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney campuses with excited force. It was heartwarming to see JMC so well received by members of the public and to meet so many individuals who were considering a creative future with us! Our next Open Day is JUST around the corner - pre-register now to secure your spot!

We brought some VARIETY to the podcasting space…

Our Acting, Entertainment Business Management, Film & TV and Audio Engineering students got their hands dirty not once, but THREE times this summer helping to produce Variety Australia’s new podcast series “The Variety Podcast”!

With special guests including director Jeffrey Walker (Modern Family, The Artful Dodger), Mark Klemens (Managing Director of Profile Talent Management) and more to be announced (watch this space!), JMC’s performance spaces in Sydney and Melbourne transformed into a buzzing hub for creative discussion! It was an incredible opportunity for our students to not only learn the mechanics of large-format podcast production, but also to gain insights from highly successful Creative Industries professionals. Congrats to all who got involved and thank you Variety Australia!

We crossed the globe to explore and create in Spain!

What’s a summer without the (educational) vacay, right? Over the new year break, acting and film students from JMC campuses across the country had the once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the history, culture and creative industries of Spain!

From learning about the film, television and acting industries of another country, to creating their own masterpieces in partnership with our friends at TAI Escuela Universitaria in Madrid, our students were able to enjoy the best of Spanish culture and gain the experience that only comes with creating in new environments. We know the lessons learned, friendships forged (between campuses AND abroad!) and memories made will last a lifetime!

We completed (and started!) a trimester!

Of course, JMC’s summer has been framed by the end of one amazing trimester and the beginning of a new one! As we reflect on past triumphs and begin preparation for new projects, we are so thankful for our community of creative peers and experienced guides who will travel forward with us into the belly of 2024.

Summer might be coming to an end, but things are only beginning to heat up!
