Categories
People’s Choice Award (Music Dept)
This award recognises the excellence and quality of individual vocal performance on a recorded piece of music. The entrant must be a currently enrolled JMC student. The song and production are not necessarily considered, only the vocal performance. However, if the recording and songwriting/composition quality is to a higher standard, this will of course help the judging panel to greater appreciate the nuances of the musical performance. Best Instrumental Performance on an Original Recording (Music Dept)
This award recognises the excellence and quality of individual instrumental performance on a recorded piece of music – such as a guitar solo, piano solo, or featured solo piece. The entrant must be a currently enrolled JMC student. The song and production are not necessarily considered, only the individual nominated instrumental performance. However, if the recording and songwriting/composition quality is to a higher standard, this will of course help the judging
Best Original Song
This award is open to a recorded song written or co-written by any currently enrolled JMC students and must include lyrics. The song will be judged based on the quality of the lyrics, melody, arrangement, and production – the overall quality of the submitted piece of music.
This award is selected via popular vote. Only current JMC students are eligible to submit for this category. The overall submissions will be narrowed down to 10 entries by our JMC judging panel, and then the final 10 entries will be included in a poll, with the entry receiving the most votes the winner. The poll will be released a few weeks prior to the Cassettes event. Best Production This award recognises the quality of production, arrangement, and engineering of a piece of recorded music. The song itself is not marked but is taken into consideration if the production enhances the quality of the song through its own high standard and excellence. The award is only open to currently enrolled JMC students who are producers or co-producers of the track. Best Instrumental Composition (Music Dept) This award recognises the excellence of a piece of music or composition that is instrumental and features no lyrics. The award primarily recognises the quality of the composition only, but performance and production may be considered if they significantly enhance the quality of the music. The entrant must be a currently enrolled JMC student. Best Alumni Work This award recognises the overall quality of a piece of recorded music from a JMC Alumni. The entrant must be JMC alumni of the JMC Campus they select and must have contributed significantly to the writing, arranging, and recording of the song/piece of music.
