This year, the partnership between JMC Academy and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival soared to new galaxies, taking us to three of Australia’s biggest music loving cities: Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and providing out-of-this-world experiences for our students along the way.

In 2025, JMC's students were given the incredible opportunity to be immersed in every facet of Laneway Festival, from running the show backstage in a variety of roles to operating the cameras on stage to performing at the Everything Ecstatic Stage in Sydney, our students had the experience of a lifetime! These hands-on opportunities not only showcased their skills taught in class but gave them real-world experience working at one of Australia’s most iconic music festivals and connecting them with industry experts.

Check out what our students got up to:
Artist Liaison Assistant: Working with artists on the Laneway lineup to manage their movements within the festival and ensure they were prepped and ready to step on stage.
Brand Activation Assistant: Supporting brand activations and (literally) building the festival experience for punters.
Live Sound Audio Assistant: Assisting the live sound team at Laneway Festival, helping on the main stage (!!) with setups and quick changeovers.
Camera Operations Assistant: Assisting the camera operations team in the capture of Laneway performances, streaming and switching on the big screens.
Digital Content Assistant: Assisting in creating and performing on-the-ground social media content for the Laneway Festival official accounts.
Stage Visual Assistant: Working in a team to design and animate the stage backdrop for JMC’s Music Artist competition winner performing at the Sydney Festival.

A Star is Born: Maybe In May Takes the Stage at Laneway Sydney!

This year, we were beyond excited to see Maybe in May, a band of incredibly talented Alumni and musicians, represent JMC at Laneway Festival in Sydney. Comprising of Marissa (Lead Vocals), Grace (Bass), Sarah (Drums), Gab (Lead Guitar), and Gabby (Rhythm Guitar). With Gab, Grace, and Marissa having just wrapped up their studies in Music and Audio Engineering at our JMC Sydney campus, this opportunity arrived at the perfect moment as they took their next steps into the music world.

Maybe in May opened the stage at the Sydney leg of the Laneway Festival, marking a huge milestone in their music journey. While they’ve graced smaller venues in Sydney, including Bootleggers and Red Rattler, as well as recently performing at SXSW in Tumbalong Park, this was without a doubt their biggest stage to date - and they absolutely owned it, attracting a crowd that sang along to every track!

@jmcacademy The crowd for @Maybe in May’s set at @Laneway Festival was unmatched. Thanks for coming and supoorting our JMC Artists!! 🫶🫶 #JMCAcademy #lanewayfestival #laneway #australianmusic ♬ original sound - JMC Academy

Their performance at Laneway was just the beginning, and what better way to step into the industry than by performing alongside an incredible lineup of artists including Charli XCX, Beabadoobee, Clairo, Djo, and Skeggs, to name just a few?

The JMC Photobooth: Capturing the Magic and Memories!

From Brisbane to Sydney to Melbourne, the JMC Photo booth captured the magic of Laneway! It was a blast to see the booth become a fan favourite in all three cities, with festival-goers lining up to capture their Laneway experience in style. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and learnt more about JMC's creative courses!

@jmcacademy JMC’s photo booth is hitting Laneway in MELBOURNE! 📸 Drop by, hang out with JMC's students and capture some free memories, plus you could win a YEAR of live music! Because creativity isn’t just a vibe - it’s a major! ⭐️🎤 #laneway #lanewayfestival #jmcacademy ♬ You Can't Hurry Love - Live At Jools' Annual Hootenanny - Olivia Dean & Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra
