At JMC Academy, we offer an extensive range of performance projects, each designed to progressively build your skills and confidence. Here's a detailed look at each tier:

Tier 1 Projects

SINGING RECITAL

This project is a celebration of vocal expression and courage. In the first trimester's week 10, students face the exhilarating challenge of singing solo in front of an audience, helping them build immense confidence.

THE ACTOR AND THE TEXT

At the end of the first trimester, students transition their acting skills from foundational techniques to applied scene work. This culminates in a performance in week 13, where they showcase their talents to an audience of peers, family, and friends, receiving valuable feedback.

Tier 2 Projects

SMALL THEATRE PRODUCTION COMPANY

In week 9, students embark on their first full-length play, performing over three nights in our specially designed Drama Studio. This hands-on experience in theatre production is invaluable for budding actors.

ACTOR AS FILMMAKER PROJECT

Inspired by the methodology of Mike Leigh, this project in week 14 involves students working in teams to create a short film from scratch. They experience everything from initial concept development to the final screening, simulating a real-world film production process.

Tier 3 Projects

AMERICAN PROJECT

In week 7, students focus on mastering the American accent and apply this skill in a performance of a scene from the canon of American Theatre, adding a vital skill to their acting repertoire.

DEVISED THEATRE PRODUCTION

This project involves the creation of original theatre performances based on physical storytelling. Students use methods like The Viewpoints and Lecoq to devise unique performances that emphasise movement and physicality.

Tier 4 Projects

HEIGHTENED LANGUAGE PRODUCTION

An in-depth experience with Shakespeare, this project involves rehearsing and performing a Shakespearean play over four nights in our auditorium, providing students with the challenge of interpreting and presenting classical texts.

ACTOR AS CREATOR PROJECT

This project empowers students to harness their individual creative talents. They choose and develop a performance piece from beginning to end, exploring various forms like theatre, dance, comedy, or multimedia.

Tier 5 Projects

SHOWREEL

Working with a professional crew, students film a scene that is professionally edited into a showreel. This valuable asset is then showcased to agents and industry representatives, providing a bridge to the professional world.

Tier 6 Projects

INDUSTRY THEATRE PRODUCTION

Students gain hands-on experience by working on a production with an external director and crew, performed at an industry venue, providing them with invaluable real-world exposure.

SHOWCASE

The ultimate culmination of their degree, this final performance presents students' work to industry professionals, offering a platform for launching their careers.
